  • The Position:

    The Staff & Safety Coordinator for Headfirst Summer Camps will work on-site at our NW Washington, DC location and manage all aspects of the Headfirst camp experience related to the health and well-being of campers and staff. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, careful management of camper medication, oversight of all safety procedures and policies, communicating safety updates to parents and Headquarters as needed, and the safekeeping of confidential camper and staff information. A natural leader, the Staff & Safety Coordinator is responsible for mitigating issues that may arise among our seasonal team members, as well as building a community to support the culture of camp. The Staff & Safety Coordinator is the on-site liaison to the Talent Department, working with their fellow team members to set schedules, manage changes to availability, and keep track of daily staff attendance.


    The Work:

    • Be First on the Scene. You are skilled in all aspects of safety, administering appropriate first aid and camp-approved medications while ensuring that all incidents are responded to, recorded, and reported appropriately throughout the camp day.
    • Keep Safety at the Forefront. You know better than anyone that the emotional and physical safety of campers is our number one priority. As the on-site safety expert, you will be responsible for enforcing and implementing all safety procedures we have in place to maximize the camp experience for everyone.
    • Communicate with Care. When a situation impacts the safety of a camper, you know how important it is to respond tactfully. Whether you are speaking with campers, parents, or team members, you handle every situation delicately and with the highest degree of compassion.
    • Motivate the Team. Our counselors and program management team are the backbone of our operation, and you will be the first point of contact to work through issues, train staff where necessary (with assistance from headquarters), as well as handle the challenges that come with working with all types of personalities.
    • Handle the Curveballs. No two days are the same at Headfirst, and every member of our team will see unanticipated challenges come their way. You may be asked to help problem-solve, lend a hand with inter-departmental projects, and take on other responsibilities as requested.


    The Requirements:

    • You have:
      • Completed at least three (3) years at an accredited undergraduate institution
      • Housing in the DC-metropolitan area and transportation to the location of your employment.
      • CPR & First Aid Certification or ability to complete CPR & First Aid certification prior to June 1st, 2019
      • MAT Certification Training, or ability to complete MAT Certification Training prior to June 1st, 2019
